Chiron, Our Healing Key

“The cure for pain is in the pain.”

A dear soul friend who shared with me her love of astrology and her enthusiasm on the subject, inspired me to continue my study of astrology and I will forever be grateful to her. One of her most vital teachings centered around the cardinal significance of Chiron in our lives.

Zodiac Signs

Chiron was named after a Greek mythological centaur who was blessed with magnificent healing abilities. According to the myth, Chiron was unintentionally wounded by Hercules’ poisoned arrow and suffered due to his immortality. Eventually Chiron’s immortality was relinquished, which allowed him to finally die from his excruciating injury. He found his home in the constellation Centaurus.

When we are blessed with 50 years around the sun, as I have been, we experience a Chiron Return. This resembles being reintroduced to the long awaited love of your life, that somehow you shunned meeting years before. Now, you are being given a second chance to understand each facet of their personality, dance with the rhythmic beat of their heart, and finely tune your heart to every inch of their soul.

However, instead of meeting another soul, this is a chance to recapture your own! This revisit from Chiron supports you, as you transmute every fiber of pain within your wound, so that you can learn to administer sweet, loving care to heal it. As you master your gifts that were revealed beneath your healed wounds, your footsteps become synchronized with your soul.

The bells of my Chiron Return awakened my awareness that those stories and experiences stemming from my wound have served their purpose. That pain is ready to be metamorphosed into a glorious contribution to the world.

These wounds we are born with can fester, leaving us motionlessness, as did the lesion which Chiron suffered. At the beginning of this recent Chiron transit in my natal Aries, I found understanding the exact makeup of the pains mystifying. Often it appeared there was a fortress surrounding these old griefs, requiring a battering ram to break through and constraining my forward movement.

Ultimately, relief arrived upon studying the Chiron placement within my natal chart. I curiously dissected fragments of my tender heart space, which made a passageway to a treasure trove of synchronistic explanations.

What I have learned is that a Chiron placement in the sign of Aries, is a deep wound of self. Here, there is a great deal of shame, self judgement, and feeling that one does not belong. A natal Chiron in Aries often struggles with discovering one’s identity, purpose, reason for living, and can over give to self detriment. The house and sign in which Chiron resides in your natal birth chart sheds much more light on what Chiron is here to teach you.

My 12th house holds my natal Chiron, so it relates to my spirituality, questioning my intuition, and denying my intuitive abilities for fear of being unaccepted. I also struggled with addictions to negative beliefs, people pleasing, and using alcohol to numb the emptiness within me. Also common in 12th house natal Chiron placements are weak boundaries, fear of letting go of situations that are harmful to our growth, empathy to a point of denying the self, and absolute fear of being our authentic selves.

My first 50 years of self value was based on an external barometer. As a result, I attracted countless situations that reflected back my diminished self worth. All of this amplified my inner sense that there was something missing from my soul.

Everything and everyone I valued was removed far enough away, that Chiron could shine his light on the one soul whom I needed to value from the very beginning, my own. Chiron took my hand and steered me to what was missing all along, the authentic jewel of myself.

Chiron taught me that I had to embrace my unique self and my unusual gifts and envelop my past decisions and experiences with compassion and forgiveness. Instead of berating my earlier selves as I replay my film of 1972-2023, I embrace all of my roles and unwrap the treasure which was hidden within those experiences.

Chiron wounds within us are presented as emotional, physical, or mental anguish. They are truly deep and painful. In fact, they are so painful, that I suffered deep depression, repeatedly begging for a sudden end to my life, all which occurred during a Chiron Retrograde.

Astrology illuminated my sources of heartache, while teaching me that we heal ourselves, as we share the gift that was shrouded within our pain.

With this gift and revelation from dear Chiron, I am able to breathe more easily, as I inhale the feeling of peace that flows from being who I was meant to be all along.

Through the lens of Chiron, I see the light within myself and feel compassion where it did not exist before.

With love and wishes that you discover your hidden gifts,

~Nicola
